Are these pink coloured Vias shown on the ,A Word About Construction" Thermal Management slide , ‘Thermal or Power’ Vias? See attached graphic,
These are vias that are normally used with a BGA fan out.
They’re not thermal vias specifically, but they are used that way. You could add thermal vias as well if you have unused pins (even if they aren’t connected electrically). Any additional copper in between the layers helps remove heat from the chip.

PS Thanks for your presentation and Heat Transfer book reference. I have obtained a secondhand copy of the book and I agree that it appears to contain a lot thermal design guidance.
