I have a request
Additional discussion of pre/post etching characteristics, including surface roughness prediction and mitigation by ENIG and/or other post-etching finishing methods.
The original materials’ vendor surface roughness (on the etch side) is significantly de-coupled from post-etching surface characteristics
As this is more than half of the roughness-related degradation, I am interested in Sierra’s thoughts and data in this area.
Perhaps this is related to materials-choice, perhaps not. Further insight, please.
We find the biggest impact on roughness is how the base copper is handled. De-burring , planarizing, scrubbing, etc. dictate what the surface will look like as all the final finishes, aside from HAL, are thin and will pretty much follow whatever the underlying topography is. This isn’t related much to material choice. Let me know if you need anything else.
